What is The Best Forearm Exercise Equipment in 2019?

For anybody looking to improve their lower arm strength, a forearm workout tool can be an essential purchase. Something you can just slip in your bag and use throughout the day at home, in the office or at the gym. Many of the devices are quiet and subtle enough to use at your desk unnoticed by others.

Healthy forearms can make daily activities like lifting or even showering less of a pain. Regular activities like opening a jar, turning door knobs, or lifting simple household objects will be much more manageable when you keep your forearms in good shape. Musicians, athletes, rock climbers or those who’ve suffered an injury can all make use of forearm strengthening exercises.

It may be the ‘guns’ or your upper arm muscles that get all the attention but lower arm muscles are just as important. Ask any tennis player or golfer about the importance of strong lower arms. Losing muscle as we age is a natural process but many of the forearm tools we’ll look at can help to strengthen those muscles that we depend on daily.

The Benefits of Forearm Exercise Equipment

Most people assume that strengthening the forearms is only for bodybuilders or athletes who want to increase their forearm strength to improve performance. Stronger forearms can make you less prone to injuries, improve your efficiency in functional daily activities like plumbing or gardening and you can also benefit from a stronger grip too. Many sporting injuries like tennis elbow can benefit from forearm exercise equipment if used in rehabilitation and can add to the confidence of a patient as they recover.

The most effective and efficient way to strengthen your forearm is with a piece of forearm exercise equipment. Forearms consist of more slow twitch muscles that don’t respond as well to heavy weights as the upper arm biceps and triceps do. Wrist curls and hand movements are more efficient at training the forearm muscles. A basic exercise that you can perform at the gym is thick bar training which forces the forearm muscles to produce more tension.

Just like any other form of exercise, you must perform forearm exercises regularly and to your fitness level for the best results. The forearm consists of small muscle groups that don’t need the same levels of excessive training of other muscles. For safety and to avoid injury it’s recommended that you avoid overtraining these specific muscles. Performing moderate intensity forearm exercises for approximately 15 minutes will be an adequate wspaorkout for most people’s forearms. (Many forearm training devices offer variable resistance for a more challenging workout, just ensure to follow the recommendations and instructions to avoid injuring these muscles.)

The following Youtube video recommends some simple exercises for the forearm you can perform at home with common household objects before investing in more convenient and portable forearm exercise equipment:

The Best Forearm Exercise Equipment

Depending on what you want to achieve from your fitness program there are many different options available that will strengthen your forearm muscles. Although many machines available at your local gym can be incorporated into your routine for developing forearm strength, the idea of a more compact or portable piece of forearm equipment appeals to many people. There are various devices available which can not only be used for forearm strength but can be used in physical therapy or recovering from a sporting injury.

We’ve looked at many of the different forearm trainers to choose the ones which we consider to be the best forearm exercise equipment.

Don’t let the simple design fool you, the Forearm Max will strengthen all the muscles in your lower arm (regular use of this machine can also help prevent tennis elbow). The easy-to-use design is ideal for both beginners and more advanced trainers alike. To use it you simply grab hold of both the handles and turn it inside and out in a variety of exercises that train the triceps brachii muscles.

The hand grips move within the inner rings both clockwise and counterclockwise, one way for supination and you flip the unit over for pronation. The product is rated as a medium resistance training aid with resistance rated at 29.7 pounds. A 4.7-inch wide grip should be large enough to fit most users.

A lightweight (only 1.5 pounds) and portable design make this training tool great for use on the go. The high resistance means you’ll soon notice your strength improving. This tool can also be used in different positions and exercise to target various muscle groups.

Pros
Pro Lightweight and portable design, compact enough to fit in a travel bag if going on vacation.
Pro Ability to target different muscle groups and strengthens entire lower arm.
Pro Ergonomic designed grip for comfort and safety.
Pro Durable construction.
Cons
Con Slightly expensive for what is basically a plastic constructed ring exerciser, although solid build quality.
Con Can’t be used to train individual arms, needs to be held by both at all times.
Con Resistance may be too strong for beginners or people with weak forearms.

From well-known manufacturer of sports equipment, Marcy, this device strengthens your forearms and wrists with a design that targets the flexor and extensor muscles in your arms. The Marcy forearm developer also strengthens the fingers to increase your grip strength. A durable plastic sleeve provides support for your forearm as you build the muscles, by simply bending and flexing the wrist.

The extra support offered by this tool makes it great for post-injury strength training. An adjustable grip allows you to customize the fit to your forearms and ensures more precise targeting of muscles in the arms. A variable resistance system means you can monitor your progress and increase resistance in the concentric phase of the lift making the various arm exercises more efficient.

This Marcy Powerhouse Wedge (as the provided instructions refer to it) measures only 14.5 x 8 x 6 inches with a compact structure that allows you to conveniently store it at home without taking up too much space. At only 2 pounds in weight you could quite easily slip this into a large bag to take to the office or gym.

Pros
Pro Comes from reputable brand Marcy with nearly 60 years’ experience in building quality training equipment.
Pro Easy to use large knobs allow for comfortable fit by adjusting foam grip.
Pro Simple dial enables to vary resistance from 5 to 25 pounds.
Pro Compact and lightweight design.
Pro Extra support ideal for post-injury training.
Pro Offers excellent value for quality forearm and wrist developer.
Cons
Con Maximum resistance is less than other products—five variable levels not enough for stronger/more experienced athletes.
Con Needs both hands for optimum use, may take practice finding correct angles for each arm for comfort.
Con Light plastic construction of stabilizing bar seems flimsy to many users.
Con For users with larger arms, the Marcy wedge may be too small or not offer enough flex.

Wrist and Forearm Blaster

This wrist and forearm exercise tool is one of the most simple devices in both construction and ease of use. A foam gripped handle is attached to a heavy gauge steel construction with durable nylon webbing rope that supports a standard 1-inch weight plate (weight not included). To use you simply wind the weight down and then using the handle roll the weight back up towards your hands and repeat until you feel your fitness goals have been achieved.

To make the exercise more challenging or difficult you can increase the number of repetitions or add more weight. Standard 1-inch weights up to 100 pounds maximum capacity can be used with this device which makes it more customizable than most other wrist and forearm exercise equipment at this price, although buying a set of weights can add considerable cost. (You can always use the weights with other equipment to tone other parts of the body, of course).

The heavy-duty steel core is solidly constructed to prevent cracking or breaking when using heavier weights, although it’s questionable how durable the nylon rope is. Some customers have complained of the rope snapping when used with heavier weights and potentially causing injury. Foam grips on the handles are tear-resistant and aim to minimize fatigue while providing a firmer grip as you work out.

Pros
Pro Anti-slip foam grip with adjustable strap for maximum comfort.
Pro Easy to use.
Pro Standard 1-inch weight plates make this forearm exercise tool very customisable.
Pro Without a weight, this product only weighs 1.5 pounds and could easily be slipped into a gym bag for use at the gym.
Pro Good for hand and wrist rehabilitation for use at home.
Pro Inexpensive price for efficient forearm and wrist strengthening tool.
Cons
Con Although steel core is durable, other features on product have been found to be weaker.
Con Foam grip handles can lose their stickiness to inner handle over time and just rotate instead of pulling up weight.
Con Best to invest in a stronger cable, included nylon rope can snap and cause serious harm if the weight drops.
Con No weight included, carrying extra weights will make product more bulky.

A unique feature is the flexibility which allows you to perform both regular forward or reverse wrist curls with an adjustable stabilizing pad. And at $20, this forearm strengthener offers incredible value.

A lightweight (just one pound) and portable design, this product from Sportneer uses heavy duty carbon springs and a thick 10-inch foam stabilizer pad for extra support and cushioning. Support is provided for both the forearm and the wrists for maximum safety and comfort.

The compact size of the device makes it easy to take to the gym, the office or use at home. Adjustable resistance is available between 25 and 30 pounds, suitable for most intermediate users.

Pros
Pro Excellent value, although list price is $30 can often be found for under $20, sometimes even less than $10.
Pro Portable and lightweight.
Pro Adjustable resistance.
Pro Very durable for price.
Pro Foam pad offers maximum support.
Cons
Con Limited resistance of only 25 to 30 pounds may not be enough for advanced users and too much for new starters.
Con No instructions provided, some people find it hard to adjust for reverse curls.
Con A few complaints about the device catching hairs on the arm.
